Dental IT Limited was involved at a very early stage in the planning and implementation of the IT for this new build dental practice. Richard Hems is an endodontist, carrying out mostly referral work, and was moving from his previous practice to a dedicated and specialist referral centre.
Dental IT Limited would be required to liaise with the architects, Bateman Harris Partnership, and the dentist, Richard Hems, to work out where the server cabinet would be installed, and where all the IT equipment, from network points, to PCs, to monitors and peripherals, would be located. This is a beautiful, ultra modern, new build practice, which would require IT equipment appropriate not only to host their DPMS, Software of Excellence EXact, but also to integrate with extensive digital imaging and radiography hardware, including a Schick camera and Schick corded digital xray unit, and a capture card for a live microscope feed. In addition, Dental IT Limited would be responsible for migrating all the relevant software and hardware, and databases, from Richard Hems’ old practice, to the new infrastructure. This was carried out without data loss or downtime.
Dental IT Limited specified an HP server cabinet to house all the IT equipment, including the rack mounted server, UPS unit, patch panel, backup tape drive, switch and adsl/firewall equipment. Space was allowed in the cabinetry for all the workstation hardware and we specified cabling for the second monitors, so this was included at first fix, and could be hidden behind panels. Reception machines were housed in special brackets, so they could be discretely hidden under the desk. One laptop was specified, as an additional reception machine, and a hot spare. We specified laser and label printers, for reception, and an inkjet printer for Richard’s consultation area.
Richard now has a state of the art, reliable IT infrastructure, appropriate for the job, and commensurate with the quality of his dental practice.
